PLOT: Esther Blodgett is a small town girl who goes to Hollywood to pursue her dream of being an actress. She meets movie star Norman Maine who convinces his agent, Oliver Niles, to give her a screen test. Oliver changes Esther's name to Vicky Lester and she quickly becomes a star. Norman marries Vicky but he is depressed over his failing career and jealous of her success. Norman begins drinking and his behavior embarrasses Vicky. When tragedy strikes Vicky must decide whether she should continue with her career or give it all up.
