PLOT: Nick Charles is a former detective who would rather have a cocktail than solve a crime. When Dorothy Wynant discovers that her father is missing and that his mistress has been killed she goes to Nick for help. Despite the encouragement of his lovely wife, Nora, Nick is reluctant to get involved. After Clyde Wynant becomes the main suspect in two more crimes Nick finally agrees to investigate. He tries to solve the case with a little help from Nora and their loyal dog, Asta.
